Dear friends: Well, all is well that ends well! In talking to my Bellsouth ISP, I discovered that my Secondary ISP address was slightly off, just enough to make it impossible for me to actually go online. I can now, after tested it several times WITHOUT the ADSL (which I turned off) testify that kpppd works fine. I am surfing Netscape, listening to RealPlayer and getting my mail. You can see the kpppd icon docked by the clock to the right very actively switching from red to green and the statistics and graph are equally active. I have also, for the record, UNchecked the "lock" option in kpppd and deleted it from /etc/ppp/option.
