Dear Ron: Thanks so much for your solution. I am sure chmod 505 or 755 /dev/ttyS1 would work as well as the suggestion by Frank (see previous letter to message), who suggested chmod 4755 /usr/bin/minicom. I decided to try his suggestion, but I want to thank you for yours, too and will keep it in mind if I need it in the future. Thanks again.
