I recall something about PCI irq's being set to 0 by the MS Windows OS by
manipulating the BIOS information about plug and play devices (is it ESCD or
something like that?) in the hardware itself. This happens when MS Windows
detects the hardware and wants to assign its own damn i/o and irq regardless
of what you tell it in the BIOS. The usual trick it to set your BIOS for "NO
Plug and Play Operating System" and use a program from DOS to set the ESCD
correctly (set it to what MS Windows assigns to it). You may even have to go
so far as to boot to DOS, run the program and launch Linux via loadlin.exe.
I have this problem with my RealTek PCI ethernet card when using loadlin to
start WinLinux 2000 (my install of Mandrake 7.0/5.3/RedHat 6.2 accesses the
card fine - go figure).
For the life of me, I wish I knew where I read this (just yesterday) and
saved the link - it's probably in the LDP docs somewhere. Ah - I found it at
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Plug-and-Play-HOWTO-5.html#W9x_ESCD
If you pursue this avenue, post back with your results. The lack of ethernet
support in WinLinux 2000 is not _that_ important (I was just writing an
evaluation article and am waiting for teh final version before proceeding),
but I would like to know if you solve your problem.
