lothar freezes my system so that I've to reboot :(((

it freezes with or without "skip ISA detection" :(((((
(when skipping, it always freezes at "soundcard detection")

I managed to have sound the old way, using sndconfig, though

I searched the usenet for similiar problems but didn't find any - am I
really the only one having problems with lothar ???

My system:
ASUS P2B, latest BIOS 1011 - didn't change anything

2 HDs, Mandrake in an extended Partiton on the 2nd, OS2-Bootmanger
1 CDRW, 1 CD-PD
Elsa Victory Erazor

and the "troublemakers":
ne-2000 ISA, 0x300, IR10 fix jumpered
pnp-soundcard pine schumann (ESS1868)

I had to reserve IR10 for ISA in the BIOS to get eth0 working

toggling between P&P-Bios/non-P&P-Bios didn't change anything

freezing a system completely so that you have to reboot is absolutely
anoying :-((((((((((((((((

ps:
Maybe the Lothar-problem is related to another severe problem I just
detected:

I can't mount my first CD-drive (a Cyberdrive CDRW) any more!!!
dmesg shows things like:
VFS: Disk change detected on device ide1(22,0)
ide-scsi: hdc: unsupported command in request queue (0)
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 64
isofs_read_super: bread failed, dev=16:00, iso_blknum=16, block=32

Comparing the boot messages from my FUNCTIONING Mandrake 6.1
(Helios)-System on the same Computer the following lines are new:

scsi0 : SCSI host adapter emulation for IDE ATAPI devices
scsi : 1 host.
  Vendor: CyberDrv Model: CDRW602 1.20 Rev: AH1
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Detected scsi CD-ROM sr0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 6x/6x writer cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray

The thing I liked most about Mandrake (6.1) was to have a reasonable
working and functional system (sound included) within 2 hours - at least
for my HW-configuration things seem to have changed with Mandrake 7.0-2
(air) and not for the better ... (though I really like the properly
configured & working selection of WindowManagers from 7.0, to say at
least something positive :)

ps: the now not working CDRW was the installation drive for 7.0, which
makes it even harder to accept :(((
