Wait a sec, if I do this, then the traffic from the linux to the windows machine still
uses the bandwidth of the external net and is still unprotected (can be snooped). Or
am I wrong?

I want to be able to communicate between the two machines without this traffic leaking
onto the external net.

I already have a hub, so how do you mean set up a private lan? A secondary NIC for all
machines with a local LAN?
