I wish to make Netscape on Mandrake 6.1 support sound to do voice over
IP.
My kernel was built with all the sound options selected.
My hardware has a Gateway 2000 sound card with IRQ 5 DMA 1 port 220h to
be
Sound Blaster Comparible -(circa 1995).
There is a CODEC pluggable connection on the sound board for which the
manual
claims is defaulted to IRQ 10, I have not verified this setting.
I made devs for /dev/dsp
--------------------------------------------
crw------- 1 hodges audio 14, 3 Apr 17 1999 /dev/dsp
crw------- 1 hodges audio 14, 19 Apr 17 1999 /dev/dsp1
------------------------------------------------------------------
There is no mention in my startup "dmesg"
However cat /proc/devices produces:
--------------------------------------------
[hodges@hodges /etc]$ more /proc/devices
Character devices:
1 mem
2 pty
3 ttyp
4 ttyS
5 cua
7 vcs
10 misc
14 sound
67 coda_psdev
128 ptm
136 pts
Block devices:
1 ramdisk
2 fd
3 ide0
9 md
22 ide1
23 mcd
[hodges@hodges /etc]$
-------------------------------------------------------------------
/proc/modules is an empty file and /proc/modules does not mention IRQ 5
or 10.
I just installed Plugger 3.2 and reloaded Netscape and it
recognizes many of the file extensions using the Plugger test
URL. I enjoyed the Lion King clip but it complains that
"Can't open /dev/dsp device" and I hear nothing.
Is there some kernel options that "make xconfig" doesn't present?
Do I need a plugin driver?
Is my board not configured correctly?
Thanks ahead of time,
Bill
