re: the CMI chip - could just be something as simple as a typo on my
part - I will
check my settings!
BTW - What does PITA mean?

Output from cdrecord using the linus kernel follows, note that kudzu
popped up and
said that I had removed the LG ... device from my system when I rebooted
with this
kernel, and since it doesn't support supermount my fstab file was bad,
