USB stuff is still experimental. If you're in this to learn a lot and
maybe contribute to the development, go for it. The 2.4 kernel is due
out in a month and it will have USB support. The 2.3.51 kernel has USB
support (experimental). If, however, you want a nice reliable system
that you can use today, buy a scsi scanner and a USB printer with a
parallel port. You can connect the USB to the printer now for win98 and
the parallel cable to use in linux until the USB support works. If you
want the USB speed today for printer access use an ethernet adapter like
an hp jet-direct.
