        I don't remember if it lets you, but at install time it uses
framebuffer (or vga16 if fbis not dupported), so may be you can try
installing the fb version of the kernel... it used to come in a separated
rpm... then you use the Xfree-fb server and you should get the same thing
as installing. unless it was using the vga-16 one, then you should use
that server.

        you can know which one was using reinitiating the instalation
(without installing; just to see what's going on). when it switches to
graphics hit CTRL+ALT+F1 and see the what-would-be startx output.
