I experienced a similar problem with both printer and sound card.
Discovered that Win98 and Linux does not necessarily use the same
configuration with various components. A Reboot from windows does not
reset the hardware, one must turn off power so that the boot to another
OS , i.e. Linux will set hardware will be correct. But then you have
discovered this Already!!!
Don'y know anyway around this.
