Sawmill is a window manager, not a desktop environment.
i.e. its like enlightenment or icewm, window maker etc.
if you install sawmill-gnome it will integrate very nicely with the
gnome-config control panel.
I am using it and sawmill rules! Version 0.25-3 is out at the moment.
The gnome development team use it which probably says something.
go to rpmfind.net and search there for packages to suit your distribution.
Catch ya.
Kingpin.
