The difference is:
Acer is not regarded as a High Quality (and therefore much more
expensive) machine. At least here in Germany IBM and HP built up
a myth that they are the only "real machines when it comes to
business". They put some higher figures on their price-tags and
their sales personnel gets trained to wear their noses way up
high.
So this made the right impression on all the brass in the
companies and they ordered "the right machines". If you
suggested to buy a Highscreen (a minor brand with just ordinary
computers) you got kicked because "we want quality, we buy IBM
(HP)".
