Bill, this is exactly the problem that has caused us to write off ALL of
our early Osbourne (Micronics m/board) pentiums - the 2nd IDE channel
doesn't work, and Windows gets lost between the CMD640  controller and
the
Standard IDE controller, installing both, but putting a big red X
against
one. The install seems to run OK, but these machines then lock up &
"loose
things" frequently (yes, even more frequently then is usual for M$!)

It's really a hardware fault (I've even seen Linux docs that refer to
the
CMD640 firmware bug), but if you've got one...
