Go to a konsole (punch Ctrl-Alt-F2 if you are in a graphical
environment like KDE or GNOME).
On the login screen just below the Tux you may read:

Linux Mandrake release 7.0 (Air)
Kernel 2.2.14-15mdk on an i586 / tty2
molch login: 

At least that's what my machine 'molch' is squawking.

You may also do a:

[wobo@molch /]$ less /etc/mandrake-release
Linux Mandrake release 7.0 (Air)
