not totaly sure of running a quake server, been leaning more towards a
half-life server
in either case this does not solve my problem or answer any questions ;)

Guess this one will be in the flame category...

Do quake on your winbox and keep it off a network with the linux
box

Quake has a blatant back door or six known for a couple of years
or more and it is still there.  Details at www.insecure.org
