Hmm....Ok. It sounds like you may be trying to use the hard
drive in "native" mode instead of LBA mode. See if you can
go into your BIOS and set the drive type to "LBA." If you
can, that might be the way to get around LILO not liking
your boot loader where you're trying to put it. Alternative
would be to use Partition Magic (or one of the other
"non-destructive" partitioning tools) to make a small (5
meg) partition at the head of your hard drive and call it
/boot and install your kernel, etc there!
