Ok...I got back to work here Monday. Here is what I found: When I log in with KDE as my desktop, VIOLA! Sounds work.... It's when I log in under Enlightenment or Gnome I get the problems......cannot play wav files from xmms, system sounds, etc After doing some reading, I noticed that the esd (Enlightenment Sound Daemon) was not being started. I put the following in my rc.local file: echo "Starting Enlightenment Sound Daemon" /usr/bin/esd & Enabled "Sound server at startup and system sounds" under gnome and "Enable sounds in enlightenment" and rebooted. viola! I now have sound under gnome/enlightenment Whoohoo! This was my workaround for this......anyone else have any other ideas?
