Did you get the "md5sum" file?  If so, you can run 
`md5sum --check < md5sum`
As long as the md5sum file is in the same directory as the ISO, and that
is the current directory.

The .iso file is actually a filesystem.  It's the iso9660 CD-ROM
filesystem standard, with either Joliet or Rock Ridge extensions to
support long file names and perhaps UNIX permissions.  So, yes, when you
burn it to a CD (make sure you burn it as an ISO image), you'll get the
same CD as if you ordered Linux-Mandrake from CheapBytes or somewhere.
