Hi, George:

No, I didn't -- I know it's a lame excuse, but nobody ever answered my
e-mail, so I didn't bother.

But I can tell you how now:

When you install StarOffice, you have to have selected the "PalmPilot
Integration" option. If you haven't yet done this, you must run StarOffice
setup again and add it.

Then, you must install a Palm application called "starsync.prc" (if I
remember correctly). You have to use another tool to install this -- I did
it using Kpilot without any troubles. I can't remember exactly where this
is located, either, but it is put somewhere in your StarOffice 5.1
directories when you install the component. Use the "locate" command to
find it; if your machine hasn't been left running overnight for a while,
you might want to su to root and run updatedb to update the slocate
database.

Once this is done, start StarOffice. Make sure you don't already have any
PalmPilot daemons running (like Kpilot, for example) because they'll hog
the port and will do the syncing if you press the HotSync button.

Click on the Explorer pull-out (this is the triangle arrow on the left
side of the StarOffice desktop; it will give you a folder tree)

Open the StarSchedule tree...

Double click on "Events" so that the calender comes up...

*now* go to the Tools menu -- you will see an item third from the end of
the menu called "PalmPilot Hotsync Configuration".

Select this, then enter the appropriate information for your serial port
(the default is /dev/pilot... usually there is a symbolic link from
/dev/pilot to the appropriate serial port). You can also configure
conduits from here.

StarOffice shows no indication it has control over the serial port. The
only way to be sure it is working is to start StarOffice and press the
Hotsync key -- if it is working you will know immediately. If your Palm
doesn't show any activity right away, something is wrong -- check to make
sure you have the right port set in the configuration.

Good luck - this worked beautifully for me.

Advice to Sun/StarDivision -- improve the documentation on this! It's
IMPORTANT!
