It's not the cd that's bad it's the hardware. I fell into this mistake
today. It turned out to be a bad cdrom drive. The reason that mandrake
has been getting all this mail lately is because of bad hardware. There
distro is highly optimized and hardware manufacturers have been putting
out substandard hardware. This means that the optimized code has
problems running on machines cdroms, hard drives, motherboards, etc.
that have until now been just barley getting along in the industry.
With windows it is not optimized so windows will usually run on this
substandard hardware. Windows may even get blamed for crashing sometimes
when it is the fault of the hardware. Linux-mandrake however will have
problems installing on this same hardware. The solution is to make sure
that you use good quality parts. Don't go out and but the cheapest
hardware and expect it to work all the time or for as long.
