Apparently I have a configuration problem with my CD-ROM as it won't
boot any data CD at the DOS level. I'm trying to install Mdk 7.0-2.
One out of 10 times I can start an install, but generally speaking I get
an "CD-ROM Boot Failure" message.
I realize that some on this list might feel this is a Windows issue and
it may well be, but I can't get rid of Windows if I can't load Linux.
Thus far I am not winning and I'm running into problems my guru has
never seen such as the install tonight got as far as accepting the
passwords for /root and /user before it stopped. I checked F3, F4, & F5.
After more than 30 minutes of no activity even though the harddrive
light was on, (no activity noted here either) we concluded a reboot was
in order. I haven't been able to access the *new* cd-rom since. Winders
boots before the CD responds even though it is set in the BIOS as
CD-ROM, A, C.
I'm not alluding that this is a mdk problem. I would simply like a
suggestion of where I might look for the solution. Is it BIOS, cables,
jumpers or? I am between the proverbial rock and hard spot. It is
possible that this problem will explain why Venus(mdk6.0) was so flaky.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
