I seem to recall reading something about a similar problem
awhile back. I don't recall the outcome, but you don't
necessarily have to copy the install tree, you *should* (in
theory) be able to just call the install from another,
non-CD directory, such as / or ~/ and then it wouldn't
(probably) try to write to the CD.
