Are you sure that you have no way _in the BIOS_ to _disable_ the PS/2
port ??? I had the same problem with 7.0 because on that box (old HP)
there was _no way_ to disable the PS/2 port. But if your BIOS has
some config line to disable it, I cannot believe that it would show
during install ...
On that particular box, where I also use a serial mouse (very old
Logitech C7) i bypassed the problem by finding a specific cable
(serial to PS/2) which I used for the install only.
Such cables are (were ...) sometimes included with new rodents,
but in any event it shouldn't be too difficult to find (or possibly
to make yourself). I do believe that most serial mouses have
exactly the same micro-controller and program as the PS/2 ones,
so it should be only a plug problem (not even an electrical one IMHO).
