I'm not sure if this belongs on the Samba list, but I thought I'd start here first since I subscribe to this list. I installed 7.1 about a half week ago. During the install I setup my printer - an HP1120C hanging off a Windows 98 box (I know, I know.) - as a SMB attached printer. I've given the config tool the name of the box, the ip address of the box (name is resolved fine, ip address is static), and the correct queue name. This worked perfectly for the test print and for a couple of days after. About two days ago, I noticed that I could no longer print. The Win98 box seems to be working fine, as I can print from another Win98 machine on the net. I even went so far as to try using the CLI to SMB, smbclient, and connected to the resource and sent an ASCII file to the printer. After two attempts, the first line of the print job spewed out of the printer for the last attempt. I've tried removing the queue and recreating it, however that has not helped. I recall that the printer stopped working around the same time I installed StarOffice 5.1 (I'm on 56K dialup, so I haven't downloaded 5.2 yet). Could SO have messed up something? Does it alter anything in lpd or something of the sort? The printcap file seems intact, as do the files in /var/spool/lpd/lp (the printer is setup as "lp"). FWIW, this is acting just like the printer problems I've had in 7.0, 6.1, and my days with RedHat 4.x, 5.x, and 6.0. As hard as I've tried, I've never been able to solve this type of problem, probably because I don't know where to start troubleshooting. Oh, I did define the two debug var's in /var/spool/lpd/lp/filter, however it doesn't look like the print jobs are making it that far since the output file in never created in /tmp.
