The dmesg that's needed is the one written during the install and probably
overwritten during first boot-up, and I can't find any such animal... I suppose
I can repeat the install and try to capture the info.
Issuing "eject" causes the drive to present its coffee cup holder, so it's not a
h/w problem... :)

I wasn't sure; some people use their personal e-mail while responding to their
employer's customers.

Thanks for the feedback. Since I still prefer the Mandrake distro, I'll be
around to answer some questions too... All this has sure come a long way since
Linus announced this baby on the Minix list. :>
