Hi Gang,

I just finished another 7.1 installation on a Celeron 300 system. No CDROM bug this
time, but there were some other glitches that need to be fixed:

1. I have a 3COM 3C509B ISA network card. I selected it from the list, and it probed
it correctly and said it found it, no problem. Well, after I rebooted, I noticed that
ETH0 failed to come up. Checked conf.modules, and behold, it had eth0 listed as some
USB thing! I changed it to 3C509, and now it comes up ok. The installer messed this
one up somehow.

2. (And this is a real big one!) When I first booted the CDROM, it appears to have
gone into 1024x768 graphics mode. (I am using a Trident 9750 AGP card, with a 800x600
max monitor.) Since my monitor can't do that, I was out. Had to go grab my only
spare monitor that could do 1024x768 to complete the install. Any install should
default to the most common denominator!!! It should start up in 640x480, and perhaps
ask you if you want higher rez (and allow testing!).

3. I tried running the install initially from just booting up dos with cdrom drivers,
and running the appropriate install batch file. This file copies some stuff to your C
drive, then tries to run it. However, the file DOESN'T WORK! It terminated with an
error. Either making the boot disk, or booting from the CDROM works fine though.

I hope this is the right place to report this stuff, so it can be fixed.

Bob
