Hi James,
got that card (CardBus Ethernet 10/100+Modem 56 - RBEMG56G-100) working
like a charm in a Dell Lattitude 400CSx portable. The Funny thing is that
both interfaces are working flawlessly once running. The modem isn't a
problrm at all. Works out of the Box. I bet you're having a conflict with
the Softwar you're using on the Serial device. The pcmcia-Package
automatically assigns the /dev/modem device to the PCMCIA-Adapter.
What I would do in your place would be to start "minicom -o " in an Xterm
and see if you can issue some AT Commands.
I'd rather need some help on the Network-Card part. The dchp-client
initialises the card right, get's an IP-Address, and then, it's finished.
Ifconfig shows the IP-Address etc. that the configuration is correct, the
Routing is correct too (default gateway), but no packet passes through.
The Trick I came accross is to:
ifconfig eth0 down && sleep 1 && ifconfig eth0 up && \
route add default gw <gatewayIP>
The the Lan works. Anyone here came accross the same problem ? (Someone on
the Redhat-devel Maillinglist had that problem too and worked around it
the same way, so it seems not to be distribution related).
Any Hints ?
Oha. System: Mandrake 7.1, Kernel 2.2.16-9mdk and corresponding pcmcia
package. (Didn't try out a self-made kernel yet).
