I have two boxes, both with Mandrake 6.1 on them. I can run ssh 2.2 on one
just fine. When I try to log into the other using ssh, I get the
following:

ccurley@charlesc $ /usr/local/bin/ssh tester -l root
root's password:
Authentication successful.
Failed to allocate pty!
Connection to tester closed.

What's a pty, and why do I not get one on the one machine?

tester has a plain vanilla "server" installation. Is there some package I
need to install? There are 256 /dev/pty* devices on tester.
