AND, I have VIA chipsets plus Seagate drives hanging using Stampede, Enoch,
Mandrake, and any other kernel compiled for 586 or 686 code. My testing was
VIA MVP3, MVP4 and Seagate variety UDMA66 types of 8-17GB. Curiosly, these
combos run with Caldera 2.3 and RH6.1, which are 386 code, and LM7.02-486.
Hard-locks at partitioning, and "lost interrupt" complaints were most common

One item worth checking--STRIP all jumpers from the Seagate and try it again.
I actually had some drives work after starting once in this condition with an
install.

I want science so I go to the store and ask for parts meeting specifications.
And what do I get? Either a plumber's puzzle or an eggplant with fangs and
claws.
