I've been able to coerce Blade3Ds into working all the time -
but it seems to be the monitor that's attached that makes the difference.
To get it to ALWAYS work, during the X setup in install (or during any X
config) I look up a single resolution for the monitor that I want to use, then
set the monitor type to unlisted, then enter the horiz and vert sync rates for
that resolution as the only ones it supports (sometimes have to set ranges that
border the exact ones supported, if the install doesn't have an exact match).
Once I get booted up in X, I edit the XF86Config for the specific modes I want
supported. And it doesn't matter if the monitor is listed in the database, the
xf86config, XFdrake, and install config stuff will screw it up anyway.
You could do the editing ahead of time by just booting to console, but I'm no
good without a GUI editor.
As far as having XFdrake or any other config program do it automagically - it
only worked once out of about a dozen variations.
