Thanks to all for the suggestions and help. We discovered the www
instructions and they do indeed suggest The Right Thing To Do. A blind
faith in RPM is A Bad Thing in this case, though in the past it has
treated me pretty well ;)

btw, this was more of a problem from my PoV because it took several days
to get a message through to the list; I would have guessed it was only
my problem but others are apparently seeing it too. Something is
swallowing messages!! I was about ready to jump to RedHat due to the
upgrade problems and the inability to send mail to this list; would
still like to be able to send mail here reliably, but the upgrade seems
to be an RTFM problem (of course, not knowing that there *was* an FM was
also a problem).
