Dear friends:

I am the owner of a non-commercial site called Sher's Russian Index at:

http://www.websher.net/inx/link.html

I hope to launch a new site that will be similar to my Russian Index but
will be both educational, informative and commercial. And, unlike many
sites that go commercial, I would like the commercial aspect to be
aesthetically and professionally integrated into the site in order to
enhance the site rather degrade it.

For my Russian Index site I use bk2site, which converts Netscape
bookmarks into a Yahoo-like structure. My thanks once again to Jens
Jacok Jensen for his technical assistance in making this possible. Not
being a programmer, I owe everything to bk2site and to Jens for the
success of the Index.

My new commercial site is far more ambitious and rather than being a
"niche" area of interest, it is aimed at a much wider, though
intelligent, educated audience. I hope that, in spite of being
commercial, it will have genuine educational value and be a public
service as well as a way for me support myself and my family.

I would deeply appreciate advice on what program might be appropriate
for my needs. Here is what I would like to do:

I would like to use a Linux/Unix search engine program that can
automatically convert tens of thousands of hypenlinks into a list of
HTML links with the usual 25 word summaries and then allow me to ftp
them to my site, organize them by various criteria such as title,
author, subject, etc., update the data, etc. Something like the Copernic
search engine for Windows but with more options for organizing the data,
sorting them and automating the ftp upload, etc. Essentially, I would
like it to do what bk2site does but, instead of using Netscape's
bookmarks, I would like to go directly to the search engines and feed
the data directly and automatically from them. Of course, I would have
to set the options, make selections from what is presented to me, etc.

My web host says that if I use a database program like MSQL, then it
could host it on its server and host my actual site on another server,
as part of the package that I bought. In other words, I wouldn't have to
set up a server on my own computer. I would use a database client to
connect to their server.

Can anyone suggest something on Linux that would be appropriate to my
needs?

Thank you so very much.
