The problem with Enlightenment was with 8i /8.1.5. There seems to be a
problem with 8iR2/8.1.6 and the version of KDE that shipped with Mandrake 7.1

Try using a different window manager. I could not get 8iR2 installed under KDE,
it worked fine unbder blackbox.
