When you selected the SVGA server, you selected to use XF-3. There aren't
separate severs under XF-4. The Voodoo 3 *is* supported under XF-4 (I'm
using one now), but the configuration it sets up is not valid.
You should find that you have a file /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. You need to
edit Section "Module" to include a line: Load "dri". Then add a section
below "Module":
Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection
Then replace the X symlink to /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA in /etc/X11 with
another of the same name pointing at /usr/X11R6/XFree86.
