I want to do a re-install, or upgrade to a newer version.
I know to save /home to keep the current user directories
and make sure that it is not re-formatted upon installation.

Re-installing will create new /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow and
/etc/group files. Can I copy back the current files after
the install, and place them over the new files ?

It seems that this should be ok as long as the UID/GID values
are the same (or changed manually). However, are there other
files (PAM ?) that we need to backup or replace ?

How do others save their /home/users when doing a new install
on top of an existing one ?

Thanks... Dan.
