Hello, I have a strange problem with a Mandrake 7.0 installation. I installed Mandrake using the advanced selective install option rather that one of the predefined the defaults because being an educational institution I didn't want certain thing available to students e.g irc,icq,games etc. and some things are missed off which we do need. The problem is that when someone logs in and opens a kterminal window the tty device is owned by that user during the terminal session as usual, but when the user logs out the tty device is still owned by that user and is not released. As more and more users log in more tty devices are taken up and so eventually no one will be able to login/use a terminal window. This is not a problem on a PC where I did a full installation to evaluate various other things. I have only noticed this problem after deploying the installation to about 100 PC's and so do not want to re-install if I can avoid it as students decend on us in 2 weeks. I have compared output of 'rpm -q -a' to see what is missing between the two installations but can see nothing obvious that could cause this problem. Oh nearly forgot to mention that on the selective installation the tty devices had permisions of crw------- at first so noone could open a termianls window, I solved this by changing the permissions to crw-rw-rw-. This was not the case on the full installation. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong. Any suggestions gratefully recieved.
