I had the exact same problem.. just go to a console .. with Ctrl-Alt-F1 and
say init 3 and then init 5 to take it back to GUI login.. and u'll be all
fine..

or better, install mandrake_desk rpm.. its also there with the KDE rpms..
and u'll be all fine.. the latest rpms of KDE 2 are just cooooooooool.. i
am running KDE 2 with 100% success now.. 

(the menus are all messed up though ;))
