I think we have uncovered a problem with Mandrake 7.1 involving networking. We have a usial install of 7.1 running on a P3 667 Intel box. It has 128 meg ram, 70 gig HD space. It is a beefed up HP Palvian that we replaced some of the hardware to make all fully compadible with linux such as the sound card is now a Sound Blaster live in stead of the rip tide junk. Any way here is the problem. in the Linux box there is 2 AOpen realtech net cards fully supported by Mandrake and work great. One goes to the hub on the in side network and the other plugs into a @home cable modem "AT&T". The modem is the Surfboard model. Well all runs great except when we are playing Half-Life on one of the Win98 PCs over the Internet using the Mandrake server as a proxy  we get a 30-45 sec pause every 15-30 minutes. It seems to vary a little. At the exact time of the pause we can ping the internal Win98 pc from the console but not say Yahoo.com until the 30 sec pass and it is like turning on a switch. The internet is instantly back on. When we boot the Linux box into Win 98 using ICS we have know network pausing and we have tried a totly different set of NIC cards "differnt model - differnt kernel module" and it made no difference. We also upgraded our kernel to ver 2.2.16 of mkd. This problem has to be software related. We also have tried turning off all power managment stuff in the bios and it did not effect it at all. Please help......
