7.0. It works fine on my system, and has done so ever since I installed
Mandrake.

Because I want to be able to record the audio, and everything I've read
says that I need either ASLA or paudio to make this work. I found the
instructions for paudio even more incomprehensible than the ones for ALSA,
so I'm trying the latter.

so it's "ens1371", not "ens-1371". Strange, because the file that ALSA
generated has the hyphen in the name.

OK. This is the important information that is lacking from the ALSA
documentation. I'm not sure how to remove a driver without rebooting, but I
guess I'll see if one of my Linux books tells me how to do that. And I can
always reboot :-)

Yes, there are several snd-oss-xxx modules, and I've put them in the
conf.modules file.

Thanks v. much for the help. I expect I can get things working from this
point onwards.
