I have an internal PNP modem, and it works fine - once I'd figured out how to change the default IRQ for ttyS02 from 3 or 4 (ie, the same as ttyS0) to a usable value. I've never understood why the default IRQs for serial ports 3 and 4 are as they are, set to the same IRQ as ports 1 and 2. >From: "Eugene C.
