Steve,

You have a couple of routes to go. Let me start out by saying you
should outsource this type of project, due to the fact there is so much
involved. And that you would be liable if something goes wrong.

One route is to use pgp forms and have your customers fill out relevant
information on the forms which is then encrypted and set to an e-mail
address that you specified.
(This route would be the easiest to implement and relatively safe as long
you are sending the e-mail encrypted. Do not send unencrypted e-mail with
sensitive information. All it takes is one snifer and it is all over.

route #2 requires that you ether purchase shopping cart software or download
a gnu shopping cart software. This route will require you to purchase a
subscription from an online e-commerce solution. Which in this case the
customer uses the shopping cart software to make their purchases and then
that information is sent to the e-commerce solution provider which then
completes the online transaction between you and the customer.

route #3 Requires that you set-up a secure server behind a firewall. Setup a
Secure database on the same server but the preferred method would be a
different server for security reasons. A modem to dial the bank to verify
the CC #'s with a dedicated phone line. Shopping cart Software ether
purchased or GNU. I would look into purchasing the software for the fact
that if something dose go wrong you are able to call them and have them fix
it. Also you might want to look into liability insurance as well. I have
learned that things will go wrong no matter what you are doing. A another
server for dally backups which would be preferred, or on the same server.
Because you are holding secure information and if it is not backed up your
UP THE CREEK WITH OUT A PADDLE.

Please note that there is more involved into route #3 and I did explain it
as simply as possible. But this is not what you call a small task ether way
you look at it. If you never have done this before I would highly recommend
that your hire a contractor or outsource this to someone who specializes in
this industry.

Hope this helps

Cheers,
