I've been playing around with 7.1 for a while now and ended being
annoyed at several things......

1. The 7.1 default install installs with a boot image. If you then
update your kernel using the updated RPMS the System.map and vmlinuz are
swapped to reflect the new kernel. Unfortunately the image is left at
the earlier kernel state. This means that when you boot your scsi stuff
whinges and most liikely doesn't work! Nice touch laziness on the
packagers behalf.

2. If you use the perl updates to solve the security problems you can
say goodbye to DrakConf. Another slight overlook on Mandrakes packagers
behalf.....Do you want those Mandrake Utilities to work??? Obviously not
because they break when doing a security update!

3. Every tried looking at your default path when you have started X????
I've installed this a number of times and always get the same
result...under X your path from /etc/profile repeats 3 times. It appears
that someone was attempting to use the variable PROFILE_LOADED to ensure
this doesn't happen. Unfortunately they expected that the only time it
was called was from inside the same function and never exported it.
Consequence is that you get a nice long path thats repeated over and
over. Try exporting the variable and removing some lines from
/etc/bashrc if you want to get rid of this.

Overall my assement of 7.1 is that is is of a significant lower quality
with regards to the effort put into the packaging. Pity because this was
one of the reasons I swapped to Mandrake from RH. Guess its time to look
going back the other way next time.

Regards
