The modem will NOT work in VMWare. VMware can only provide access to hardware that the host operating system recognizes and has drivers for. This is because VMWare simply emulates those host devices as something the guest OS can handle. VMWare cannot provide direct access to anything for its guest OS, nor would Linux allow it.
