Well, after 3 days of struggling with XFree86-4.0.1-15mdk.src.rpm,
I am now struggling with XFree86-4.0.1-16mdk.src.rpm.

THEY. WILL. NOT. BUILD.

I am trying to upgrade from XFree86-3.3.6 to 4.0.1 by compiling
the src.rpm with glibc-2.1.3-17mdk, rpm-3.0.5. I can build, thus
far, every OTHER src.rpm I have downloaded. XFree86 refuses to
build properly. What it does is compile but rpm repeatedly fails
to produce nice, i686 rpms (or any other rpm for that matter).

I am compiling it for my Athlon. An i586 rpm is NOT optimized
by any stretch for an Athlon. I have made alterations to my
CFLAGS specifically to optimize for my Athlon. ALL other src.rpms
build fine. There are NO error messages whatsoever, and there is
plenty of harddrive space so I am not running out of room.

What is the problem with Mandrake 7.2beta/Cooker XFree86 or rpm?
It would appear that it must be either one or the other. Has
ANYONE managed to get XFree86-4.0.1-whatever to build into a nice,
proper rpm? If so, what version of rpm are you running? What
version of glibc?

Please, someone respond. Hopefully with useful information.
I have got squat from usenet and squat from this list. Someone
somewhere must have built the XFree86 binary rpms from src rpms,
or at least TRIED to.
