I just realized that eth0 (internet) was in promisc mode
(after using an nmap option to test my work server)
    /usr/share/msec/promisc_check.sh
    calls
    /usr/bin/promisc_check

There is no man page for this and no command line options
to tell me what it can/can't do.
I only found these that work...
    /usr/bin/promisc_check
    /usr/bin/promisc_check -q

What else do I do besides a reboot ?

Whoever wrote promisc_check made sure not to flood syslog
with lots of repeated messages, however they should also
check (and report) if promisc mode is now off. So...
promisc off ... no changes ... promisc on ---> report
... no changes ... promisc off ---> report
(and repeat that cycle.... makes sense to me)

Thanks... Dan.
