Currently I run a network like this: @home cable modem->SMC USB Ethernet Converter(NIC)->Win2k Server->LinkSys LNE100TX(NIC)->HUB<-Davicom 9102(NIC)<-Mandrake 7.1 with excellent results! To sum up before I get started: I want to configure my Mandrake box-433mhz PII with a Davicom 9102(it works fine) NIC-to use @home services. The modem converts to ethernet and I will connect modem to Davicom NIC, etc. I'd like to know if anyone has had success with interfacing the SMC USB Ethernet converters with Mandrake and what you did to make it work. I'd like to make the Mandrake machine the front runner to my @home connection and do away with memory HOG Win2k server entirely. I also tried to connect to the modem with the Davicom NIC in the Mandrake box but couldn't get connected. For this to work, do I have to have the @home DNS server address and if so, where can I get it? I am considering using the USB interface solely for the Win2k machine(probably my best bet in any case as I have drivers for it) and taking the LNE100TX and putting it in the Mandrake machine, using the mandrake machine as the gateway, firewall, etc to support that winmachine and an older 180mHz Cyrix box with a non-X install of FreeBSD. So if anyone has information re: configuring one Mandrake machine for @home services with a regular NIC or if the SMC USB Ethernet convertors are compat with Mandrake..it would be great! I have tried DHCP and BOOTP with no success, also.
