For use with NFS, CVS or other timestamp sensitive applications rtime is
NOT recommended.  xntpd or a replacement thereof (like chrony) for
synchronization with at least one, preferably two outside time servers
with allowance for stratum levels.  Of the soapbox, I personally use xntpd
for synching the main local timeserver with two different ntp servers, and
then use timed to keep the local network in synch, xntpd was too finicky
for my patience on the local level.  xntpd was really simple to set up for
just the server box, and timed can be setup to be a master local server. 
The adjustments for timed are accurate enough for most timestamp sensitive
stuff.
