Check your environment variables. See if TERM is set to correctly report what
kind of terminal you are on. The TERM variable is used by less to figure how
many lines are on your screen. If that looks fine, you should check the
environment variable LINES.
- From the less manpage:
LINES Sets the number of lines on the screen. Takes
precedence over the number of lines specified by
the TERM variable. (But if you have a windowing
system which supports TIOCGWINSZ or WIOCGETD, the
window system's idea of the screen size takes
precedence over the LINES and COLUMNS environment
variables.)
