How can I get my Merlin card working under LM7.1?

timothy writes "Greetings, and thanks again for this cool forum!

Here's a question: I have a Merlin Type II wireless internet access card, with service
from Verizon (formerly known as Bell Atlantic). It's numbingly slow but works pretty
well other than that.

I can get it to work under Windows -- though it took a call to their help desk to find
out about a bug with it under Windows 2000, since I don't know much about Windows --
but under Linux no luck so far, in large part because I am a perpetual newbie with no
intuitive feel for config files or obscure directories, unfortunately.

I know my gateway and my own IP address. I've heard that Linux can see this device as
a normal modem, but I have no clue how to get it to do so.

Does anyone have this working successfully? I'm sure *someone* does, right? What I'm
looking for is a screen-by-screen, blithering-idiot type guide for making this work;
right now I am forced to reboot into Windows in order to connect wirelessly, and I'd
much rather be able to stay in Linux the whole time.

What is the best way to get my Merlin card working under Linux? Please help me,
obi-wan!

Cheers,

timothy
