I believe I have found the problem that prevents XFree86-4.x
from building. There are no dependency messages, no obvious
error messages.

I began scrolling back thru the message display on my xterm,
from which I ran the build, and see a message that

/var/tmp/XFree86-root/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/glide_drv.o
could not be found.

That's all there is.

OK, so I downloaded glide_drv.o from a website on the net after
doing a google search. Suboptimal. Whence, exactly, is the
glide_drv module supposed to derive? From XFree86-4.x source
or from Glide_V3-DRI? I had already installed the listed
dependencies for XFree86-4.x, yet this error occurs.

I manually transferred the module to /var/tmp/XFree86-root/usr
/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers and began the build process again
with "rpm -bb XFree86-4.spec". I am assuming that I will end
up with rpms this time.

Another question, however. I have, at present, XFree86-3.3.6
installed, from Mandrake 7.0. I have downloaded and built
the XFree86-compat-3.3.6 src rpm from cooker/7.2beta.

This leads to these questions:

When I am ready to install XFree86-4.x, do I merely do
an rpm -Uvh? Do I have to uninstall 3.3.6 and then install
4.x? What functions does the Xfree86-3.3.6-compat
packages actually supply? Surely not any servers, as the
server I will be intending to run is the XFree86-4.x server?
Finally, does drakxconf only setup you XF86Config for 3.3.6
or does it also work with 4.x OR should I stick with using
the 4.x-supplied xf86cfg app?
